Vases…
‘My background before persuing fine art was in archaeology and the history of art.
I have a degree in Archaeology and I used to participate in fieldwork. I worked on archaeological sites with burials: the burial of political prisoners in Poland during Stalins rule; a 17th century cemetery in central London.
The observations I made of the process of decay of bones and soft tissue, of bone disease has had an impact on my art practice.
Clay/ceramics is always present on archaeological sites, often the dating of a site is based on the ceramic shards found.
Clay is in common use today, it is in the bricks of a wall, pavements, toilets, toothpaste, makeup, medicines.
Clay has a symbolic aspect; according to the myths of various cultures it is the material used to create humans.’
Many thanks to Ewelina for the work and the install yesterday ❤️
